This  course  aims to provide an entry point, introductory qualification for those wanting to, or already teaching adults. It is usually required for all new entrants to the teaching profession in the lifelong learning sector in England, and it is a generic teaching qualification.

  • Use a variety of inclusive teaching skills and learning resources to accommodate different learner needs and learning styles. Identify and appreciate the role and responsibilities of a teacher and the relationship between different professionals in lifelong learning and also the teacher’s responsibility for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for learners.
  • Identify and appreciate teaching and learning strategies and approaches in lifelong learning, and how to use these to meet the needs of learners.
  • Plan and deliver an inclusive teaching and learning session.
  • Identify and appreciate the principles and practices of assessment.

There is a portfolio to assemble during the course, which consists of answering a number of questions, plus compiling notes and handouts from the course. Additionally, in the final session, each candidate will deliver a short teaching session to their colleagues on a topic of their choice.

Teaching methods will include whole group teaching, small group and pair work. A range of activities will help you investigate the characteristics of the adult learner; teaching and assessment methods and techniques; planning lessons; creating resources; and classroom management techniques, in this intensive course.
